Sweaters

Sweaters. Even typing the word makes me happy. Yes, I know. Sweaters are possibly the most amazing things ever. Everyone is just kind of subconsciously jealous when they see someone else wearing a sweater. It's scientifically proven. Maybe.
Sweaters. They are so versatile. There's sweater sweaters, sweater vests, sweater dresses, sweater shoes, sweater tights, and even books about sweaters. They can turn even the ugliest hag into a sexy, if not socially awkward, human being.
Sweaters. They deserve their own country. Their own government. Their own holiday. That's it! National Sweater Appreciation Day!! This is possibly the most awesome idea I have ever had. Just think about it. National Sweater Appreciation Day. It's ingenious! So, the very first National Sweater Appreciation Day will be this Friday, March18, 2011.Wear your sweaters everybody! And don't forget to appreciate them in the process.
Sweaters. :D

There's Nothing Like a Game of Quidditch

It's true. Especially on the first day of real spring. I got really muddy, and I figured out that I make a not-too-shabby Keeper. It figures the only sport I'm good at is Quidditch. :)

So now for my Awesome Post:
-Muggle Quidditch
-Rhythm of Love by Plain White T's
-Gilmore Girls
-The smell of Spring
-Young Womens

Papa had to speak in Kirksville last Sunday and I got to go with him. There are two wards in Kirksville, so we stayed for two sessions of church. His talk was good and people kept telling me that I should tell him and all that stuff. Then, the Sunday School teacher said something about how my dad is a great man and I'm lucky to have him as a father. It's the truth and I've always known that, but for some reason I just wanted to say that I love my parents. They're awesome and nice and all that parently stuff. Just putting that out there.

I'm trying to work on being more positive about things. I realized that I'm really whiny sometimes. I don't do the whole pouty voice thing, but I talk pretty negatively about some things. There is hardly a day of school that I don't say something like "I hate school" or "I hate Mrs./Mr. TeacherPerson". So, I'm going to try and think about other happier things. This ought to be interesting.

Quote of the Day: "Small kindnesses, small courtesies, small considerations, habitually practiced in our social relationships, give a greater charm to the character than the displays of great talent and accomplishments."
Prayer of the Day: "Father, deep within me is my determination, my strength, my will to survive. It comes from You and I thank You. Amen."

Oh, May My Soul Commune with Thee

Oh, May My Soul Commune with Thee- Hymn 123

1. Oh, may my soul commune with thee
And find thy holy peace;
From worldly care and pain of fear,
Please bring me sweet release.

2. Oh, bless me when I worship thee
To keep my heart in tune,
That I may hear thy still, small voice,
And, Lord, with thee commune.

3. Enfold me in thy quiet hour
And gently guide my mind
To seek thy will, to know thy ways,
And thy sweet Spirit find.

4. Lord, grant me thy abiding love
And make my turmoil cease.
Oh, may my soul commune with thee
And find thy holy peace.

Last Sunday, during sacrament meeting, I was randomly picking a song in the hymn book. I found this one. I don't know why, but I really liked it. I guess that's all.

Quote of the Day: "By the time a man realizes that maybe his father was right, he usually has a son who thinks he's wrong."
Prayer of the Day: "Dear Father, open my heart and close my lips and let me exalt You in silent reverence this day. Amen."

Chores vs. Service

Yesterday, I shoveled. A lot. Mostly behind the garage, but also some of the path from the garage to the back door. I wrote about it yesterday a little. Anyways, it was horrible. I was cold and wet and grumpy.

Today, Mama and I went to the Dollar General. On our way home, we saw our neighbors (Actually, they live across the alley. But whatever.) shoveling snow from around their car. Obviously, there was a lot. So Mama asked me if I would go over and see if I could help. Usually, I would hesitate and ask "Why can't someone else?" But today, I just said yes, bundled up, and went over there.

Our neighbors are an elderly couple. Not crippled, helpless old people. Just old. Loxi is always lending us... well anything really. They had been working for a while so they were both tired. I was only there helping for about 20 minutes before they decided they were done for the day. As Loxi said, "I can think of 3 reasons, off the top of my head, why we should go inside. O. L. D." :) I love her and her family.

I got home and realized that I wasn't cold. In fact, I was pretty warm. I was fairly dry, except my boots. And I felt... just plain good. Honestly, it was weird at first. I started comparing yesterday to today. After a while, I figured it out. Doing something for a friend, or neighbor, or just about anyone because you want to is so different from doing something because you have to. So I'm gonna make my little mental chart in this post.

Chores:
suck, make me grumpy, not likely to be fun, basically ruin my day for about an hour or two
Service:
make me feel warm and fuzzy, so much more fun than chores, make me happy and nicer

Yeah. Also, some of the things on this list completely depend on your attitude. Just because your parents ask you to do something, doesn't mean that they're trying to make you grumpy and ruin your day. Usually, they're just trying to make your house look even the slightest bit presentable.

I'm going to try to brighten my attitude about chores this week. Here's a bit of advice- put some fun music on and dance around like an idiot while cleaning. It totally makes everything more fun.

Also, we have a cute little calendar thing with one quote for each day of the year. They all start with a small prayer and end with a quote. I'm going to start writing some of those on here.
Today's prayer says: "Lord, sometimes I feel I have a right to complain, but I do not want my life to become saturated with negative feelings. Help me to turn toward the positive. Amen." I did not know that would be so relevant to this post. Wow.
And the quote is: When most people are caught between two evils, most take the one they've never tried."

Mother Nature Kind of Sort of Sucks... But I Guess I'm OK with That

Stealing a quote from some church but who cares. "Whoever is praying for snow, please stop!" It's crazy out there! Don't get me wrong, it was pretty fun seeing how deep the snow went and making snow cones with plastic cups, snow, and lemon lime Kool-Aid. Shoveling? Not so much.
So, I am still wet from almost 3 hours of being outside. Except, that was something like 2 hours ago. I'm cold, even though the heater is working (thank goodness!). And, I have nothing to do. Great. Thanks Mother Nature. Thanks a lot.
However, as I said earlier, the heater works. I have plenty of food. Water, milk, kool-aid, etc. I am indeed clothed. So I'm warm (somewhat), fed, and not naked. Oh yeah, and my toilet is completely functional. That's a biggie!

The Zoo That is My Family

My house is a sea of hormones. And Papa's stuck in the middle of it all. With Sarah off at college, there's only 4 of us girls and Mama, counting Andrea. Fejj comes home every week (usually) with Laney. Ryan's doing great! And... he'll be home from his mission this summer!! :D

I've started an 'Awesome List' in my journal (thanks for the idea, Sarah). And I decided that I would steal another idea from Mama and tweak it a bit. So, I'm going to post an Awesome List every week-which will probably turn into every month, knowing me. They'll probably be posted on Fridays.

I've found one of my new favorite authors! Sarah Dessen! I've read all of her books and got three of them for Christmas. I'm also rereading the Harry Potter series!! :D
